NAME: Chris Newell
SCHOOL: Thurston
BIO: Coach Newell graduated from South Eugene High School and went on to play football at Portland State University. He eventually left Portland State and finished up at the University of Oregon, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Masters Degree of Science in Special Education. He has coached High School football for 32 years (9 at South Eugene; 6 at Creswell; and 17 at Thurston High School). He also has coached Boys and Girls Basketball at the High School level, as well as Track and Golf. The highlight of 32 years of coaching has been winning back to back State Titles with Thurston in 2018 and 2019. Coach Newell has been married to The Love of His Life Brenda for 22 years, and has three sons, Jacob, Luke, and Matthew. To round out our family, they Scooby, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, as their awesome protector.
